Thank you for your interest in Missouri Star Quilt Company’s Sewing Center. It’s a great place for gatherings and retreats. We think you’re going to have a lot of fun here! We’re happy to answer all your questions, so let’s get started.
What facilities are available at the Sewing Center?
The main floor has a large room that can be used for activities, events, and dining. There are two bathrooms, two guestrooms, and a full kitchen. The second floor has eight guestrooms and six bathrooms. It can accommodate 37 people overnight at full capacity.
The main floor can accommodate approximately 37 sewers and sewing machines with two people per table. Each table has its own electrical outlet nearby. There is also plenty of space for cutting and ironing. The middle of the room works well as a dining area, with plenty of room for your whole party. The spacious kitchen includes a sink, dishwasher, microwave, oven, refrigerator, and freezer. Enjoy the outdoor deck just off of the kitchen when the weather warms up.
There is also a Smart television (no channels) and DVD player on the main floor if you would like to watch movies or instructional videos while you sew. In addition to these amenities, guests also have free access to our wireless network during their stay. Guests have access to all of these facilities 24 hours a day during their stay at the Sewing Center.
What kinds of events can be held at the Sewing Center?
It is available for sewing and crafting retreats. If you have a group that would like to reserve the Sewing Center, please contact us to make arrangements. We’d love to host your personal retreat!
How many people can stay at the Sewing Center?
The center can accommodate 37 overnight guests when all of the beds are filled to capacity. We have a total of 37 twin beds. The bedrooms on the second floor of the facility are only accessible via stairs, with the exception of two handicapped-friendly rooms on the main level. The bedrooms are configured with several different layouts (see listing below). We also have six private bathrooms on the second floor. Each bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink. These bathrooms are shared by all of the guests on the second floor.
Do you have handicapped accessible rooms?
We have two bedrooms, each with 2 twin beds, a shower, shower chair, toilet, and sink, available on the main level of the building that are reserved for those who cannot physically navigate the steps to the second floor. These rooms are not handicapped accessible by ADA standards, but they are handicapped-friendly.
How are the guestrooms configured?

How many people are required to rent the Sewing Center?
You may reserve the Sewing Center for your large group. For more information about reserving the Center for your group call Cindy Morris at (816) 265-1812. There is a required minimum two night stay with an unlimited maximum number of nights. If your group has an overnight event and does not fill all the beds, we reserve the right to open enrollment until the facility is at maximum capacity.
How much does it cost to stay at the Sewing Center?
The Sewing Center is available for a 2 night minimum stay, each bed is $75. For more information on staying at the Center call Cindy Morris at (816) 265-1812.
Mini Retreat Center
The Mini Retreat Center is available upon request. It features a full kitchen, an activity/dining area, and one bedroom that will accommodate up to 8 people.
The activity area can accommodate 8 sewers and sewing machines with two people per table. Each table has its own electrical outlet. Please note that the Mini Retreat Center is directly above the MSQC Primitive store and can only be accessed by stairs from the outside. We’re sorry to say that this space is not handicap accessible.
Occupants share two full bathrooms and one large sleeping space with eight twin beds. A quaint kitchen allows for a cup of coffee or a midnight snack to fuel your sewing marathons. Overnight rental includes access to the entire facility 24 hours a day. Rental rates are as follows:
$550 a night for all 8 twin beds.
Do I need to bring my own sewing machine and supplies?
Feel free to bring your sewing machine, cutting boards, and tools if you prefer. We have Babylock sewing machines available to use for the entire time you are here as well as sewing essentials kits (cutting mat, rotary cutter, ruler, and scissors). There are irons and ironing boards for everyone to share.
Can Jenny teach us while we are there?
Jenny does not do any teaching but Trunk Shows may be attended separately. Visit our event page HERE for more information.
When is check-in and check-out?
The center will be available for check-in at 9:00 a.m. on the day of your arrival. Guests are asked to have everything out of their rooms by 10:00 a.m. and check-out is no later than 11:00a.m on the day of departure.
Do you provide meals?
For private retreats Missouri Star Quilt Company does not provide food, but Hamilton has several excellent dining options nearby including J’s Burger Dive, Hamilton Baking Company & Cafe, Subway, Mi Mexico, Blue Sage, and HyKlass Grocery. If you need any recommendations, just ask.
Do I need to bring my own sheets or towels?
The Sewing Center provides one set of bedding and a towel and washcloth for each overnight guest during their stay. We’d like to add that the beds are pretty comfy and cosy too. You’ll want to sleep in every day!
Do you have a smoking policy?
The Sewing Center is smoke-free. Should smoking occur in the building, that individual will be asked to leave and will be held responsible for the cost of professional cleaning. Please help us keep our center clean by only smoking outside of the building. Thank you!
Can we bring alcohol?
Although we would prefer that the facility remain alcohol-free, we understand that retreat-goers occasionally like to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. We strongly discourage excessive alcohol consumption and reserve the right to ask guests to leave if they become disorderly. A glass of wine won’t get you in trouble, just keep your hat on! 🙂
Can I bring my pet along?
The Sewing Center is a pet-free facility. Leave Fido at home and leave the fun up to us! For those who have assistance animals, they may be permitted on a case-by-case basis. Thanks for understanding.
How do I sign up for a retreat?
MSQC frequently hosts classes and Themed retreats, No Frills retreats, as well as private retreats. Themed retreats are 4 days and No Frills are 3-4 days long. Please click on “Events” at the top of the page to sign up for a retreat or call: (816) 265-1812.
How do I book a retreat for my group?
To book a retreat for your group, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll be happy to help you! At the time of booking, you will be asked for a 50% deposit when you return the signed contract. The balance will be due 90 days prior to your scheduled date. Don’t forget to pay the rest of your balance in a timely manner to avoid losing your deposit.
What is your cancellation policy?
We all know life happens, so if you need to cancel your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. If you cancel 90 days or more prior to your scheduled date, you have the option of applying half of your original deposit toward another date in the future. If you cancel 90 days or less prior to your scheduled date you may lose your deposit.
